Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Meet at the hotel in Kigali or at the airport on arrival, transfer to the city for a tour to genocide memorial museum before proceeding to Parc National des Volcans; home of gorillas. Settle in Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Le bambou Gorilla Lodge/ Virunga lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback lodge / Muhabura hotel as we wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trek (Volcanoes National Park)
Early morning set off for gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National park. Gorilla Trekking through the light mountain forest of the Virunga is a wonderful life time experience. Sight and stay with these giant apes is one hour. Return to the Lodge for Lunch, take afternoon walk to nearby cultural villages. Some gorilla families however are elusive, and tracking can take a full day, especially when it is wet and muddy. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Le bambou Gorilla Lodge/ Virunga lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback lodge / Muhabura hotel as we wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek
This is your opportunity to see gorillas the second time in Rwanda. You can visit the same or different gorilla family from the previous day. In the evening, we can take a walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. All meals and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Le bambou Gorilla Lodge/ Virunga lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback lodge / Muhabura hotel as we wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 4:Hike To Dian Fossey Tombs
Wake up early for another adventurous hike to Dian Fossey grave site, located at the former Karisoke Research Center, where, the late Dian Fossey spent close to 20 years studying and habituating the Mountain Gorillas. This trek is so spectacular, goes through thick bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats, with criss-crossed trails and tracks of forest buffalo and elephant! Expect an encounter with all sorts of wildlife as you make our way up and down to Karisoke, nestled between the beautiful volcanic peaks of Karismbi and Visoke. All meals and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Le bambou Gorilla Lodge/ Virunga lodge / Sabyinyo Silverback lodge / Muhabura hotel as we wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Tracking, Leave For Kigali
Have breakfast at the hotel and proceed for another adventurous trek to visit golden monkeys in Virunga National Park. Retire for lunch and transfer back to Kigali where the tour ends.
