Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Have breakfast at the hotel and proceed to Nyungwe Forest. En route visit to Rwanda National Museum in Butare, Murambi genocide memorial site, lunch in Butare, dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk
Have breakfast enter Nyungwe forest in search for 13 primates species and over 300 bird species, making it a bird watcher’s paradise! There are huge concentrations of habituated Chimpanzees whose troops can include 400 to 500 individuals! Return to your lodge for lunch.
You can relax after lunch or go for a canopy walk or cultural walk among the local communities where you will be entertained with local dance and drummer, and get to know more about the local cultures. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge.
Day 3: Nyungwe Forest to Volcanoes National Park
Take morning breakfast and connect to Volcanoes National Park, overnight at Mountain gorilla view lodge.
Day 4: 1st Gorilla Trekking
Have early breakfast and transfer to Kinigi station for a 30 minutes briefing about mountain gorilla tracking. Tracking Gorillas is very strenuous and tiresome but meeting and staying with these giant apes is worth the effort. You will be allowed to stay with gorillas for 1 hour for observation and photographing.
You can take a walk to Ruhengeri Market, providing you with an opportunity to see and buy local Rwandan fabrics, foods, arts and handicrafts. Or we can drive to see the beautiful twin lake of Burera and Ruhondo. Dinner & overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.
Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
Breakfast at the lodge and hit the road to Southern Bwindi National Park (Kisoro), another home to mountain gorillas in Uganda. Check-in Gorilla safari lodge, lunch and take a nature walk to snake caves, Lake Mutanda and pygmies (Batwa people). Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Safari Lodge.
Day 6: Second Gorilla tracking in Bwindi
After early breakfast, we shall proceed to park offices with packed lunch for a briefing about the ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ while with gorillas. Tracking can take 2-8 hours depending on their movements. Tracking involves walking up steep and densely forested hills before finally coming across the gorillas camouflaged in the vegetation. You will stay with these Giant apes for 1 hour for observation and photography. Relax in the evening as we wait for dinner and overnight stay in Gorilla safari lodge.
Day 7: Kigali city tour, departure
Breakfast at the lodge and hit the road back to Kigali (3hrs). Take a city tour to Gisozi genocide memorial museum, local art and craft shops, local markets and do last-minute shopping. Depending on your scheduled departure flight, you will be transferred to Kigali Airport.
