Ajai Game Reserve:
This is one of the game reserves in Uganda; It is located in Gulu district of northern Uganda. The Ajai game reserve is characterized by Grassy plain, wood lands and swamp habitats. It should also be noted that no accommodation is available at this reserve however; it is established to protect the few white rhinoceros remaining in Uganda due to poaching. It is so important to protect Rhinoes because they are rare species world wide. Other animals living here include buffaloes, bushbucks, hartebeest, hippopotamus, warthogs, waterbuck and a wide variety of bird species.
This is a protested area managed mainly for conservation through management intervention. Area of land and/or sea subject to active intervention for management purposes so as to ensure the maintenance of habitats and/or to meet the requirements of specific species.
Bokora corridor is found in dry plains andcan be accessed by difficult road in the dry season only. No accommodation available here. Animals living in Bokora corridor wildlife reserve include antelope, eland, gazelle, giraffe, hartebeest, hyena, kob, leopard, lion, oribi, oryx, reedbuck, topi, a wide variety of birds among others.
Bugundu Game Reserve:
Bugundu game reserve is found in Uganda near Masindi district. It is accessed by road from Kampala. It is located at the edge of Murchison Falls Park. It is reached throughout the year. No accommodation available however, clients can stay in accommodation in Masindi town. Wildlife in this reserve includes; buffalo, elephant, hartebeest, kob, lion, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.
Karuma Game Reserve:
Karuma game reserve is characterized by open grassland and forest. It is accessed by road from Kampala towards northern Uganda. It is located near Murchison Falls National Park and Open all year round. No accommodation available. Animals living in the park include buffalo, elephant, hartebeest, kob, lion, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.
Katonga Game Reserve:
This reserve is characterized by Grassland and riverine habitats. Access is by road from Kasese or by aircraft via Kasese. Animals living in the park include buffalo, bushbuck, elephant, hippopotamus, reedbuck, warthog, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds. It should also be noted that, visiting this should be during day because, there is no accommodation here.
Kigezi Mountain Gorilla Game Reserve:
This is characterized by forest and bamboo covered mountain slopes. Travel via Mbarara by road to Kisoro with the basic accommodation available. Kigezi montain gorilla reserve was established to protect the endangered mountain gorillas however, they co-exist with other animals like buffalo, bushbuck, giant forest hog, leopard, monkey (including rare golden monkey) and a wide variety of birds among others.
Toro Game Reserve:
Lake shore, swamp and forested hills. Access by road from Fort Portal. No accommodation available. Animals living in the reserve include giant forest hog, hippopotamus, leopard, lion, reedbuck, waterbuck and a wide variety of birds.
